She is 31 years young and has been living in The Hague for 11 years. Emmi Kimppa is born and raised Finnish and the new star in the firmament within the Salacia team. “I came to the Netherlands right after I finished high school,” she opens the interview. “I have always had the ambition to study abroad.” Emmi first studied Dutch Studies in Leiden for one year, then did her Bachelor’s in International Studies, which provided a nice, broader world view. “Back then I was still missing the environmental angle in my studies, and I also wanted to build more technical knowledge and skills, so the Masters in Industrial Ecology was a pretty perfect fit,” she outlines.
The balance between continuity and staying at the forefront of the dynamic field of sustainability
After her Masters, she worked for 2.5 years at a small sustainability consultancy in Amsterdam as an impact analyst. She got to work with different types of clients in various sectors, helping them with a wide range of sustainability topics, from circular economy to regeneration. “I’m very thankful for the experience; I got to learn a lot while doing meaningful work.” After this adventure it felt right to look for a balance between continuity and staying at the forefront of the dynamic field of sustainability, and Salacia completely matched this vision. “Salacia seemed to be really on to something with their solution, and I feel inspired to contribute to its continuous improvement and development.”
“High-quality data and clear insights into impact are essential for a real sustainability transition. Without this, it’s just talk. This is why I’m excited to contribute to the ongoing development of an already powerful tool like Salacia’s.”
Her role as ESG expert at Salacia completely matches her vision, as she loves solving problems and continuous learning. Emmi: “Salacia is an exciting place to build knowledge, and it’s energizing to work in such a lovely international team. We work hard towards our common goals, and we enjoy doing it together.”
Both the Netherlands and Finland feel like home
The journey from Finland to the Netherlands 11 years ago did not deliver culture shock. “The Hague is a very nice city to live in and through Salacia I am now also getting to know Rotterdam better. I love the Netherlands, The Hague has really become my home. Finland is and remains my native country, of course, I still spend time there. Salacia supports me to enjoy both places,” Emmi says.
