What does CO₂ reduction really cost?
Puncture assumptions, find opportunities and make credible choices. CO₂ reduction is often seen as expensive and complex. Or as something you can only seriously get started with once your data is fully in order. But is that actually true?
Future Up’s ESG Days bring together professionals, experts and organisations around the most important issues in the field of sustainability and ESG. The programme focuses on knowledge sharing, practical experience and encounters: from current developments and new insights to concrete solutions that help organisations translate sustainability into daily practice.
The theme ‘Building Tomorrow’s Business’ revolves around the question of how organisations can make the choices today that contribute to a future-proof economy. Salacia, Nexio Project and Rabo Carbon Bank are organizing one of the break-out sessions.

Break-out session
What does CO₂ reduction really cost? Where are the biggest opportunities? And how do you decide which measures to take first?
During this interactive break-out session, Nexio Projects, Salacia Solutions and Rabo Carbon Bank will take you from emission data to concrete action. We challenge common assumptions about CO₂ reduction and investigate how organizations can make effective and credible choices within Scope 1, 2 and 3.
Using myths, practical examples and interaction with participants, we look at data quality and emission hotspots and what comes next. Which reduction measures actually have an impact? What do they cost, and what do they yield? Which opportunities are often overlooked? And how do you get suppliers and other chain partners on board when a large part of your emissions take place outside your own organization?
We also look at the question of what you do with emissions that you cannot yet reduce and what role carbon credits can play responsibly in this.

From CO₂ footprint to concrete choices
Many organizations now have a reasonable overview of their Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. This creates a new challenge: how do you translate that data into concrete reduction, investment decisions and effective management?
During the session, we connect three perspectives:
- Measure & Control – Salacia Solutions
How do you gain sufficient insight into your emissions to recognize hotspots, set priorities and structurally monitor progress? Not perfect data, but useful data for better decision-making is central. - Reduce – Nexio Projects
Where are the actual promising reduction measures? How to assess measures on impact, costs and feasibility and how do you translate climate ambitions into a practical reduction plan? - Residual emissions & carbon markets– Rabo Carbon Bank
What do you do with emissions that you cannot yet reduce? When can carbon credits play a credible role and what should you pay attention to as an organisation when making choices within the voluntary carbon market?
Together, we map out the entire route: measuring, prioritizing, reducing and dealing responsibly with residual emissions.

What will you get out of this session?
After this break-out, you will have a clearer picture of where your organization stands and which next step makes sense. You will receive practical tools to:
- use emission data to identify reduction opportunities;
- distinguish between relevant insights and false precision;
- weighing up reduction measures in terms of impact, costs and feasibility;
- Include scope 3 and suppliers in your climate strategy;
- to deal credibly with emissions that cannot yet be reduced.
You will go home with a clearer answer to four questions: what should we measure, what should we prioritise, what can we reduce and what is our next step?
For whom?
This break-out is intended for professionals who are involved in climate strategy and its translation into daily business operations. These include ESG and sustainability managers, ESG data analysts, CSRD working groups, finance, control and reporting professionals, C-level executives and procurement professionals.
The session is particularly relevant when your organization already has a reasonable picture of its own CO₂ footprint and is now facing the following question: How do we translate our emission data into concrete reduction, investment decisions and effective management?

What can you expect?
A future-proof company must not only know what its climate impact is, but above all understand where it can actually make a difference. This requires insight into the largest emission sources and reduction opportunities, a realistic assessment of costs and benefits and embedding climate action in investments, procurement and daily decision-making.
This session will show how organizations can make the step from climate ambition and CO₂ data to concrete choices that contribute to lower emissions, more efficient operations, greater resilience and long-term value.
