Joey Quandt, 24, made a conscious decision to do an internship at Salacia Solutions. “I am doing my graduation internship here for my Communication & Multimedia Design program at The Hague University of Applied Sciences. I deliberately chose Salacia as my internship. I like the fact that this company makes an impact. Their goal is clear. Making a profit is great, but only if it also results in a better world. That is what Salacia stands for.”
Research in preparation for a new documentation system
The assignment Salacia gave Joey is as follows: Conduct research into what is needed to design and develop a new documentation system. “This new documentation system could become part of the software Salacia markets. It must improve user-friendliness for the customer. Think of clear explanations where necessary, explanations of the methods to be used, terminology that is visualized and explained, a kind of wiki about the jargon used and a lot of extra information about laws and regulations. In short: everything should be self-explanatory as much as possible, resulting in fewer questions to our support department,” Joey explains.
Joey has many internal conversations with people who answer support questions. In time, he will also have conversations with Salacia partners to identify their questions and needs.
“Fortunately, I get a lot of guidance from Eelco and Martijn, so I can find my way in the matter,” he explains. “So the first phase is now to conduct research. What do we need and how big should the scope be?”
Creating awareness among companies
Before he ended up at Salacia, Joey was already aware of the climate problem. “At home we do our bit by turning down the heating a little and taking shorter showers than before,” he says. “Of course, that’s just a drop in the ocean compared to what’s happening in Rotterdam. Salacia also creates awareness among companies. It is important that companies realize that it is not a question of ‘having to’, but of ‘wanting to’. Taking responsibility in the field of ESG does not mean thinking in terms of costs, but above all in terms of new opportunities. Salacia knows how to explain exactly where those opportunities lie and how to exploit them. In that respect, this company is much more than a software developer. The social character here is very strong.”
Working on personal growth
After his internship, Joey will enter his final year of study. He is clear about his future. “I have the ambition to continue as a Front End Developer. This graduation internship mainly consists of research and design, but I also want to learn more about building software.”
